⚠️ Important RTO Tip

Always ensure that the signatures on Form 29 and Form 30 exactly match the signature of the seller on their original RTO records. RTO inspectors frequently reject files due to signature mismatches. If the signature has changed over time, a registered affidavit might be required.

AI RC Transfer Document Checker: 100% Broker-Free Process (2026)

💡 Bhai Ki Advice (Dalal Se Bacho): RTO agents RC transfer ke naam pe aapse hazaron rupaye loot lete hain. Asliyat mein ye process ab 90% online (Parivahan) ho chuka hai! Sabse important baat: RC transfer apply karne se pehle check kar lo ki gadi ka ‘Insurance’ aur ‘PUC (Pollution)’ valid hai ya nahi. Agar expire ho chuka hai, toh file turant reject ho jayegi. Form 29 aur 30 par kharidne aur bechne wale dono ke clear signature hone chahiye, aur agar gadi par loan tha, toh bank se Form 35 (NOC) lana mat bhoolna!

Buying or selling a second-hand vehicle in India is incomplete until the Registration Certificate (RC) is officially transferred to the new owner’s name. Failing to do so can lead to massive legal liabilities for the seller if the vehicle is involved in an accident or crime. Our AI RC Transfer Document Checker asks you 3 simple questions about your vehicle’s status (State, Loan status, etc.) and generates an exact, fool-proof checklist of RTO forms and KYC documents you need to successfully process your ownership transfer in 2026.

Standard Document Checklist for Ownership Transfer

For a normal sale within the same state, arrange the following file:

  1. RTO Form 29 (Notice of Transfer): Must be submitted in duplicate (2 copies). It is the official declaration by the seller that they have handed over the vehicle.
  2. RTO Form 30 (Application for Transfer): This is the main application form signed by both the buyer and the seller.
  3. Original Vehicle Documents: You must submit the Original RC, a valid Insurance Certificate (in the seller’s name), and a valid PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificate.
  4. Buyer’s KYC: Valid Address Proof (Aadhaar, Voter ID, or Passport), PAN Card (or Form 60 if PAN is not available), and 2-3 passport-size photographs of the buyer.
  5. Bank NOC (If Applicable): If the RC has “HP” (Hypothecation) written on it, you need Form 35 and an NOC from the bank proving the loan is closed.

Frequently Asked Questions (RC Transfer India)

1. Is it mandatory to have a PAN card for RC transfer?
For purchasing a 4-wheeler (Car), a PAN card is generally mandatory to track financial transactions. For 2-wheelers, if the buyer does not have a PAN card, they can fill and submit Form 60 instead.
2. What is the time limit to transfer the RC after buying a vehicle?
As per the Motor Vehicles Act, the buyer must report the transfer of ownership to the local RTO within 14 days of purchasing the vehicle. Delaying this can attract a monthly penalty.
3. What documents are needed if buying a vehicle from another state?
In addition to Forms 29 and 30, you must obtain Form 28 (NOC – No Objection Certificate) from the seller’s RTO stating there are no pending dues or criminal records against the vehicle, before you can register it in your state.
4. Who is responsible for any accident before the RC is transferred?
Legally, the person whose name is printed on the RC is considered the owner. If an accident or traffic violation occurs before the RC transfer is complete, the original seller will be held legally and financially responsible. This is why sellers must ensure the transfer happens immediately.
5. Can the RC transfer be done entirely online?
Through the Parivahan portal, you can fill out the details, pay the fees, and book an appointment online. Some states offer a completely faceless service via Aadhaar OTP, but in many RTOs, physical submission of the file containing original signatures is still required.
